Summary of AAU Girls' Basketball Rule Changes for 2003
  1. Official Basketball
    The Rawlings 10 panel basketball was adopted as the Official Ball for all AAU Girls' Basketball Tournaments.

  2. Format Change for 16, 17 & 18/u Tournaments
    Beginning in 2003 teams shall be placed in pools with a minimum of six (6) teams or a maximum of seven (7) teams. Every team will advance from their pool to a single elimination bracket and seeded according to the way they finished in their pool. Medals will be awarded for the top twelve (12) teams. There will be no Shoot Out Bracket.

  3. Spring Fling I and II at Disney's Wide World of SportsTM
    The gold medal winner of each age division will continue to receive an automatic bid to their respective National Championship for 2003

  4. Top Four Associations in National Tournament
    Associations that finished in the top four of the 2002National Championship will get an additional bid to the 2003 Division I National Championship.

    The following Associations will receive an additional entry into the respective D-I National Championships bid to the 2003 Division I National Final Four

    The bid is extended to the winning ASSOCIATION, not the team

  5. Players will be allowed to play in Division I & II National Championships.
    Only if their team does NOT qualify for Division I, then Individual players (NOT A TEAM) will be allowed to play in both the D-I (by being picked up by a Qualifying team) & the D-II National Championship.

  6. NIC Tournaments are changed to Division II National Championships.
    Division I National Championship will retain all qualifying procedures. There will be a change in name only.

    Division II National Championship, previously known as (NIC), will be played in the same format as Division I National Championship including the entry fee ($600.00). If the number of teams do not render sufficient numbers then the National Chair may make an adjustment to the format.

  7. Opening Ceremony for 17/U & 18/U will be eliminated.

  8. Change Qualifying Numbers For Age Divisions 12 thru 16.
    3-9 teams advance one (1) team
    10-17 advance two (2) teams
    18-35 advance three (3) teams
    36 & over advance four (4) teams
    All other provisions remain the same.

  9. Atheletes in the Lake Earie Association will participate in the Ohio Association National Qualifiers in all Age Divisions.
