RECAP: 2015 AAU Spring Fling I

The 2015 AAU Spring Fling I is over and done but for 26 teams, the glory will last forever! 111 teams battled in their pools to come out on top but after all was said and done, only one team in each division could take home the gold! This event was a Super Regional, which means the top four finishers in each age division will receive a CONDITIONAL bid into the 2015 AAU Girls Basketball National Championships. Don’t forget: teams that qualify for the National Championship MUST play in their District Qualifying Tournament (DQT) to validate their bid. For a full list of champions, see below.

All of the champions were from Florida, but one: Morton Basketball Club. They made the trip from Morton, Illinois and it would seem like the trip was worth it since they took home some shiny new hardware. Florida Future had a good turnout at the awards area on Sunday afternoon. Four of their teams won their divisions and Jupiter Jaguars and Central Florida Elite each had two of their teams win their age divisions.

We also had a very special guest at the gym this weekend. Jeff Fogel and his team, Mo Steel Girls 6th Grade, traveled to the AAU Spring Fling I and competed in the event for the first time. Fogel was diagnosed with ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s disease, about three years ago, but he didn’t let that slow him down. You can read more about his story and their experience at the AAU Spring Fling HERE.
